About the Property
The property was the gift of Ellen D. Preston and was named in memory of her late husband. A loop trail more than a mile long passes through two open fields, farm lands, and along the Little River.
The eastern portion was used as pastureland as recently as the 1990s. It provides an increasingly rare habitat for shrub-loving species. It has been left to revert to forest, as has the remainder of the preserve which is covered by a 30-year-old oak-hickory forest.
